Lets Start With Rum

The main alcohol of beverage is rum. The most popular rum is Havana Club followed by Santiago, Varadero, Vigia Legendario and Mulata. Havana Club on its own offers nine different expressions from cheap to ultra-premium. Rum is also my cuban favorite, below are some drinks to try.

Cuba Libre

Cuba Libre

The Cuba Libre is one of my favorite drinks in Varadero. This drink is made with rum and coke and can have a lime. (I prefer cola Light or diet cola) This drink has been traced back to 1900 during the Spanish-American war.

A US army captain added some coca-cola and lime juice to his drink. As he raised his glass he yelled "Por Cuba Libre" To Free Cuba! Well the name stuck and is now one of the most popular drinks on the island,

Pina Colada

Legend states the Pina Colada dates to the 1954 when its said Ramon "Monchito" Marrero the head barman of the Caribe Hilton in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico Mixed the first ones.

With an abundance of rum in Varadero this drink is naturally a favorite for all visitors. The is also a quiet debate as to wear the best Pina Colada in Varadero. My favorite is at Xanadu which you will learn about in the things to do section of this website.

You will find almost everywhere in Varadero serves Mojitos, but Bar Gideon serves one of my favorites so be sure to give it a try.

Original Cuban Daquiri

The Original Cuban Daquiri

The Daquiri that we know now originated in 1898 when the Guantanamo Base was being established during the early days of the republic. Groups of soldiers were initiated into the cocktail named after small mining town nearby called Daquiri.

This is an extremely popular drink found widely around Varadero. Most people are accustomed to the sweet flavors of a daquiri but the original cuban daquiri is not.
